    MasterRoc SLF 325 -
New Foaming Agent for Heterogeneous Grounds with Low to Medium Permeability

How does MasterRoc SLF 325 work?

MasterRoc SLF 325 is a new, highly biodegradable, cost-effective, high-performance foaming agent for TBM applications specifically designed for silty to sandy soils in environments above 11°C. It produces a stable foam that holds the face pressure and maintains the rheology of the excavated ground longer than conventional foaming agents.

What are unique features of MasterRoc SLF 325?

MasterRoc SLF 325 is based on readily biodegradable raw materials and guarantees improved foam stability that ensures proper EPB counter pressure. The improved foam properties provide better control of the ground pressure, reducing the risk of additional ground settlement at the surface and over excavation. This makes it easier for the tunnel boring machine (TBM) operator to control the rheology of the soil without compromising construction performance.

What are the benefits of MasterRoc SLF 325?

MasterRoc SLF 325 can be used with standard foam generators installed on EPB machines. It can be injected at the cutterhead, into the working chamber or in the screw conveyor and improves contractor’s tunnelling performance for projects with heterogeneous grounds with low to medium permeability.

    Operational Benefits:
    • Improved TBM excavation cycle’s time, quality, and cost
    • Improved face excavation support pressure and control
    • Improved overall tunnel performance
    • High foam capacity allows to work with high FER values without foam collapse
    • Allows to work with lower FIR values to achieve the desired soil rheology
    • Facilitated muck extraction from the tunnel and muck pit area
    • Minimized over-excavation and contractual disputes
    • Reduced tunnel excavation time and TBM maintenance costs
    • Reduced risk of surface settlement
    Technical Benefits:
    • Improved soil behavior and reduced soil permeability
    • Lower inner friction and abrasiveness of the soil at the cutterhead and shield
    • Increased face stability due to the formation of plastic deformation properties in the soil
    • Reduced stickiness of soils with high fines contents (i.e., <0.063 mm), which otherwise cause clogging and blockages
